
Al ASMUS
At the age of eighteen Al moved to San Francisco and joined the 6th Army Band at the Presidio. There
he played with Doug Miller (Tenor Saxophonist in the Count Basie Band),
Reid Merley (Oboist with San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra) and Doug
Inman (Trombone with Bill Watrous). During his three year stint with the Army Band, Al performed for Bob Hope for Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, and President Ford. In
1978 Al left the Army Band to study Band Instrument Repair. In 1997 he
toured Mexico as a featured guest soloist with the SCSU Big Band. Al has worked with Little Eva, Martha Reeves, Bobby Vee, and The Temptations. He has played hundreds of casual gigs (weddings, clubs, etc.) and has done his fair share of radio and TV commercials. Today,
Al is the owner and operator of Al Asmus Band Instruments located in
St. Cloud, MN, where he sells, rents, and repairs for hundreds of happy
clients.
MIKE THORSETH
Mike has worked for Al Asmus Band Instruments since 1998.
About Mike:
- 2001 Mike graduated from Sauk Rapids Rice High school.
- 2003 he started teaching marching band and drumline at Sauk Rapids.
- 2004
he was named assistant director of the Sauk Rapids marching band and
also became pep band director at Sauk Rapids. While director the pep and
marching bands in Sauk Rapids Mike also maintained a 4.0 GPA and
graduated from Southeast Technical College with a Band Instrument Repair
Diploma.
- 2005 he became the director of the Sauk Rapids drumline.
Other
accomplishments include: Marching with Minnesota Brass Inc. in
Minneapolis/Saint Paul in 2003, 2005, and 2008. Check out the link here:
